What a dramatic weekend! Travelling all over the world is certainly a love of mine, and this weekend I visited Salzburg in Austria to take part in a festival called Electric Love. For me, it was the perfect getaway, Electronic Music, and a serene landscape, with rolling hills on either side of the campsite.
The trip did however, have its downsides. The unpredictable weather was certainly difficult to cope with, with sweltering heat in the daytime, and freezing cold at night. I don’t think I have ever shivered quite as much as I did on Friday night, at one point even considering paying First Aid a visit to ask them if I had hypothermia.
Not to mention, the Saturday night was largely overshadowed by the huge hurricane/freak storm that ensued. As tents were torn from the ground, and bin bags went flying through the air, I certainly did begin to question my choice of accommodation!
One thing was for sure, I definitely was not living the Life of Riley, luxury was far behind and forgotten. I emerged from the weekend covered in sun burn, severely dehydrated and with hair that resembled a bird’s nest, with a desperate desire to once again use a toilet that flushed!
It may sound crazy, but I did in fact enjoy every minute of it. All of the negatives are sacrifices worth making for a weekend of music and sun and relaxation, and it did feel like a nice break from technology, which was desperately needed.
Thought for the week – sometimes happiness is achieved by leaving your comfort zone, and trying something that takes you completely out of your normal routine. Even if you don’t enjoy the experience, it certainly helps you to appreciate what you take for granted on a day-to-day basis.
Now to prepare for my next trip!
